In 1959, the National Council on Science Development (NSTC) provided funding for Academia Sinica to build the Biology Building (Yellow Tile Building) at its current location in Nankang. The building was completed and opened in the summer of 1961 during the presidency of Hu Shih. It was jointly used by the Institute of Zoology and the Institute of Botany. The exterior walls of the Yellow Tile Building are made of a unique Taiwanese brick known as "Thirteen Groove Joint Bricks," a facade style that has become rare in Taiwan. The photo was taken in 1990. It currently serves as the archives room for the Central Administrative Office, as well as offices for the Secretariat and the Department of International Affairs.
