In order to promote American studies, former Academia Sinica former President Wang Shih-Chieh (first from right) planned to establish the Center for American Studies (the predecessor of the Institute of European and American Studies), and attended the groundbreaking ceremony with Academia Sinica President Chien Shih-Liang (second from right) on September 15, 1971.
