In October 2003, former Academia Sinica President Yuan-Tseh Lee established the "Sunney Chan Lecture" to express gratitude to Academician Sunney Chan for his significant contributions to Academia Sinica and the academic community during his tenure as Vice President. The Sunney Chan Lecture Awardee, Dr. Jennifer A. Doudna (2018) and Dr. Carolyn R. Bertozzi (2007) were also awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2020 and 2022, respectively.
