Academia Sinica has been a member of the International Council for Science (ICSU) and successfully hosted the 32nd ICSU General Assembly in Taipei from August 31 to September 3, 2017. This assembly was also a significant meeting for the merger of ICSU and the International Social Science Council (ISSC), with the merged organization named the International Science Council (ISC). Emeritus President Yuan T. Lee once served as President of ICSU, and President James Liao was elected as a member of the first Governing Board of ISC after its establishment.
