In 1949, Academia Sinica moved to Taiwan with the government. Due to the lack of transportation and funds, only two institutes, the Institute of History and Philology and the Institute of Mathematics, were able to transport staff members, books, antiquities and documents to Taiwan. The photo shows the "Mathematics and Physics Building," completed in 1960 and shared by the Institute of Mathematics and the Institute of Physics. In 1982, it was demolished and rebuilt as the front building of the Institute of Physics Research Building.
