In June 1946, the members of General Assembly, Academia Sinica, decided to purchase 200 are of land at Xiaohanjia Village, Jiuhua Mountain in Nanjing to construct a center for research in physics, chemistry, and mathematics. The first building of the Institute of Physics was completed in March 1948, and the Institute of Physics and the Institute of Mathematics were relocated from Shanghai to this new building. Today, this area is known as the Jiuhua Mountain Science Park.
